Antique Japanese Meiji Era c1890 Kiri Wood Suzuribako Calligraphy Tansu 12" Statue This looks to be aAntique Japanese suzuribako from the mid Meiji Era (c. 1890's). This portable calligraphy tansu has three drawers and a lidded top section, made of solid Sugi wood (cryptomeria). It is finished the original natural, raw finish. The metal hardware is hand forged iron. Suzuribako were used as portable accounting chests (the forerunner of the attach' case).
